RUSSIAN OUTBOUND TOURISM MARKET SHORT NEWS
“Leisure Exhibition” in Moscow took place from 19th to 21st of September 2017. It is considered the second biggest tourism exhibition after MITT in March. However, the overall size of the show has significantly decreased compared to previous years, most probably giving place to workshops like LTM and Pure Luxury. Russia (as a destination) occupied over one third of the exhibition space.
After a turbulent summer and many flights cancellations, the Russian VIM Airlines bankrupted end of September 2017. The airline offered international and charter flights for both passengers and cargo as well as wet lease services.
The Russian market is expecting cheaper packages to Dubai and UAE in the upcoming autumn and winter seasons 2017. Already in September 2017, according to Sletat.ru the average 10 nights package to Dubai is 28% cheaper than September 2016.
Flydubai significantly increased the frequency of scheduled flights to Dubai in South of Russia: from Rostov-on-Don (7 times a week), from Krasnodar (4 flights), from Voronezh (2 flights).
Ras Al Khaima (UAE) announced an increase of 84% from the Russian market in the first semester of 2017.
Progress has been made toward resuming flights between Russia and Egypt. Possible resumption of flights in 2018
As per the Consul of Sri Lanka in Russia, 36 000 Russians visited Sri Lanka from January to August 2017 vs 33 500 in the same period last year
As per ATOR, Israel was visited by 243 000 Russians from January to August 2017, which is 48% more than in the same period of 2016.
The Russian tour operator Natalie Tours announced an increase of 40% to Spain over the summer season 2017. Approx 41% of total sales were to Costa Daurada followed by Costa Brava with ~27%.
As per Atout France, the number of Russians that visited France has increased by 30% since the beginning of 2017
S7 Airlines will start regular flights from St. Petersburg to Lyon as of 29 December 2017
Russians spent around 18 500 room nights in Monaco in the first half of 2017 which is approx. 18.5% more than in the same period of 2016.
S7 Airlines will launch flights to Turin and Verona from St. Petersburg starting from 27 December 2017
Tour operator Coral Travel announced launch of direct charter programs to Phu Quoc in Vietnam as of the end of October from Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk and Irkutsk.
